Employment, social insurance, and sex equality in Japanese law

The question to know how to implement equality between men and women workers remains one of the main preoccupations of Japan in the field of social policies. To support women worker’s participation, various policies are implemented, and new policy orientations are proposed. Among those policies, we can identify two special policies, one being designated to guaranty equal treatment between men and women, the other promoting conciliation between professional and family life. Concerning social security policies, a distinction can be made between policies concerning leave insurance, and those which are more oriented towards women’s participation to labor market. Interestingly, most of those policies are also designated to fight against low birth rate in Japan.
