Responsible for the 21st Century COE Program <Gender Law and Policy Center>
The 21st Century COE Program 'Gender Law and Policy Center' was established in 2003. Its principal purposes are to promote a variety of researches to elucidate theoretical issues on gender, in terms of legal and political sciences.
This Research Center has functioned as a library which possesses 4000 books concerning Gender Law and Policy, and as a hub of network between Asian/ European/American institutions, Japanese local governments and bar associations.
We organized six research clusters concerned with: political participation, employment, family, sexuality, human security, and gender education policy. In addition we held 25 research meetings including the French-Japanese Research Seminar in the academic year of 2004.
We also organized the first International Symposium on the Comparative Perspectives of Gender Law and Politics in order to discuss problems and opinions of gender law and policy in Asian and European/American countries. The aim was to provide a platform for contribution towards finding solutions for gender-related problems from comparative viewpoints on law and policy.
In this 'Gender Law and Policy Annual Review vol.2', we covered all reports and lectures written in English, French or Korean, which were presented at our research meetings and the International Symposium.
Furthermore we published, in Japanese, the second volume of "the Gender Law and Policy Research Series" on "Japanese Policy toward Gender Equality". The third volume on "Possibilities of the Gender Legal Studies and Gender Politics" will be published in March 2005.
We hope that this 'Annual Review vol.2' and other publications can contribute to the mutual understanding of gender issues all over the world, and promote a gender equal society.
We would like to ask for your kind, generous support and cooperation with our project.
