Responsible for the 21st century COE Program <Gendar Law and Policy Center>
In autumn of 2003, we started the 21st century COE Program 'Gender Law and Policy Center' whose principal purposes are to promote a variety of research elucidating theoretical issues on gender in terms of legal and political sciences and to crystallize their outcomes into concrete rules and policies.
To attain our purpose, first of all, we established the Research Center on the 1st of December 2003, which possesses 3600 books concerning Gender Law and Policy and functions as a hub of networks between Asian/European/American institutions, Japanese local governments and bar associations.
Secondly, we organized the six research clusters concerning political participation, employment, family, sexuality, human security, and gender education policy. We held more than 14 lectures and research meetings during 6 months.
Thirdly, we kept a close connection with the Law School and the Public Policy School of our university to produce gender law and policy researchers, gender-sensitive lawyers and policy professionals. In addition, we established the overseas satellite office in Paris that provides a new gender law and policy program for the COE fellows by giving them opportunities for learning/studying on site.
Lastly, we published the first volume of 'the Gender Law and Policy Research Series' on 'Positive actions all over the world' in March 2004, and aimed to publish 'Gender Law and Policy Annual Review' for international academic exchanges.
In this 'Gender Law and Policy Annual Review', we compiled all reports and lectures written in English or French, which were presented in our research meetings and symposiums.
We hope that this 'Annual Review vol.1' will contribute to the mutual understanding of gender issues all over the world, and promotes a gender equal society.
We would like to ask for kind and generous support and cooperation on our project.
