1. 5 applicants are to be admitted

2. Required qualifications

A person needs to satisfy all the requirements below :

  1. Foreign nationality required
  2. Registered students (expected) of Doctor Course of Tohoku University at the date of the 1st October, 2006.
  3. Conducting research on "gender law and policy in a gender equal society"
  4. Adequate ability to speak and study in Japanese.

3. Application period

From Thursday, 6th July to Wednesday, 12th July, 2006
Office hour : 10:00-12:00, 13:00-17:00
The application must arrive by 12th July, 2006.

4. Documents Required to Application

  1. Curriculum Vitae
  2. 4 copies of your Master's thesis (or equivalent). These documents must be in English, French, German or Japanese only.
    (NOTE : Not required for students who submit or expect to submit a master thesis to the School of Law, Tohoku University by September, 2006.)
  3. List of your own publications (must be on A4 sized paper).
    If articles are in English, French, German or Japanese, they need to be translated in Japanese.
  4. 4 copies of your research proposal (within 2000 words, A4 sized paper), only in English, French, German or Japanese.
  5. Registration Certificate (or letter of acceptance) of Doctor Course of Tohoku University.
    (NOTE : Not required for students who graduate (expected) from the master course of the School of Law, Tohoku University by September, 2006.)
  6. Alien Registration Certificate Document, which is issued by the local city office.
    (Except person who stays in Japan in less than 90 days.)

5. Selection Procedure

Selection will be made by the committee, on the basis of the documents submitted.

6. Notification of Acceptance

All the applicants will receive a written notification from the Office.

7. Research Activity and Financial Aid

"COE Doctorate Students <Foreign Students>" must carry out their research and research related to this COE Program. Each COE Doctorate Student will have an adviser (COE faculty) to give counsel for their research activities and participation of related project. COE Doctorate Student could be appointed as a COE Research / Teaching Assistant. In this case, they could receive up to approximately ¥80,000 yen per month (1 year from the 1st October, 2006. These assistantships could be extended until the end of March, 2008. Successful applicants could also receive a Special Research Grant of approximately ¥400,000 yen for a year from the 1st of October, 2006.

8. Note

  1. When applying by post, applicants should use "Registered Mail", and write in red "Application Documents for Tohoku University Graduate School of Law (COE Doctorate Program for Foreign Students)" on the front of the envelope.
  2. Once the application documents have been accepted, no changes will be allowed.
  3. Any accepted documents will not be returned.

    3. Applicants are considered to be consent with respect to the foregoing.
