This COE Program, "Gender Law and Policy Center", focuses on legal and political scientific research into theoretical problems related to the gender equal societies that Japan and the world in the 21st century promote, aims to establish a new field of gender law and policy studies, and produce gender-sensitive researchers, lawyers, and policy professionals. Legal and political scientific research includes various subjects (and issues) below; public law (gender and human rights, policies for women etc), international law (international human rights, international family issues etc), private law (family law, consumer law etc), social security law (employment etc), criminal law (violence against women and human rights etc), legal theories (feminism legal theory, legal history etc), political science (women's representatives and participations etc), international relations (peace and development and gender politics etc).
In addition, the gender issues relating to cultural anthropology, ethics, education, sociology, medicine, and engineering will be studied so as to contribute for actual gender education and policy-making.The Center consists of three sections: basic research, applied research, and policy implementations. All program associates and junior research associates are affiliated with one section and undertake research and/or teaching. Political participation, employment and social welfare, family, physical liberty and sexuality, human security are the center's five research clusters, which are substantive research units and oversee individual research projects staffed by members representing each section.
Additionally, gender education is independently established as the sixth cluster, so that the collaborated research with areas of natural science will produce wonderful results.COE Fellow will be expected to research own academic interests relating to the above gender issues, as well as to participate seminars and international symposiums held at the center, and finally to contribute by means of publishing the research.
