“Gender Equality in a Multicultural Society: The Islamic Head Scarf Issue in France” (Projects: Tsujimura1)

Outline

A small workshop hosted by our GCOE’s “Gender Equality in a Multicultural Society” Project was held at the CNRS Laboratory in the 17th Arrondissement of Paris. First, GCOE Program Leader Tsujimura Miyoko made a PowerPoint presentation introducing the GCOE and briefly explained the Project. Next, Eleni Varikas, professor at the University of Paris VIII and Director of Research at CNRS, along with others, spoke on “The Islamic Head Scarf Issue in France,” which was followed by discussions. CNRS Director of Research Helena Hirata, Professor Nukatsuka Yasue of Kanto Gakuin University, and Kyoto University Associate Professor Sogabe Masahiro participated with several French and Japanese doctoral students. We also held GCOE meetings and discussed collaboration with other institutions and researchers like CEVIPOF (CNRS Laboratory) Director of Research Janine Mossuz-Lavau.
