For international students

1 Admission Procedure

(1) Master's Program

The entrance examination for the master's program is usually held in October and January with enrollment for the next April.

There are two additional tests, one for persons already holding fulltime positions and another for those who have just graduated from foreign colleges or universities for October enrollment. Please look at the description for these tests if you are interested.

All of the tests are conducted in Japanese.

REGULAR ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

The examination can be taken in one of two forms; Type A consists of a written examination and Type B consists of a written thesis which is then evaluated.
The period to submit an application to take the Type A examination is usually in late December for the following year's spring term. The first screening consisting of tests in the applicant's field of specialty and a selected foreign language is held in January with the second screening (oral examination) in late February. For the Type B examination, an application must be submitted in late August. The first screening consists of evaluation of the thesis with the second screening (written test in a selected foreign language and oral examination) being held from late October to early November.

SPECIAL ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR APPLICANTS WORKING FULLTIME

Applications are accepted in late August and the first screening process will consist of a 4000-word paper describing the applicants' own work experience, why they decided to go to graduate school, and what they plan to study. The second screening is held from late October to early November with a written and oral examination.

TEST FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

The Graduate School of Law inaugurated an entrance examination system in the 2000-2001 school year for students from foreign countries or students who had graduated from universities abroad after April of that school year. The test will be held in September with enrollment for the following October. Please see the latest description for further details.

(2) Doctor's Program

In principle, applicants must have obtained a Master's degree or its equivalent.

Applicants are required to take written examinations in one foreign language to be selected from English, German or French. A copy of the applicant's Master's thesis or the equivalent must be submitted and an oral examination concerning the submitted thesis or the equivalent is required prior to enrollment. Applicants are required to submit a Japanese translation with their thesis, if it is not written in Japanese.

The deadline for applicants is in early January. The examinations are given in late January or in early February.
