For international students1 Admission Procedure(1) Master's ProgramThe entrance examination for the master's program is usually held in October and January with enrollment for the next April. There are two additional tests, one for persons already holding fulltime positions and another for those who have just graduated from foreign colleges or universities for October enrollment. Please look at the description for these tests if you are interested. All of the tests are conducted in Japanese. REGULAR ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONThe examination can be taken in one of two forms; Type A consists of a written examination and Type B consists of a written thesis which is then evaluated. SPECIAL ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR APPLICANTS WORKING FULLTIMEApplications are accepted in late August and the first screening process will consist of a 4000-word paper describing the applicants' own work experience, why they decided to go to graduate school, and what they plan to study. The second screening is held from late October to early November with a written and oral examination. TEST FOR FOREIGN STUDENTSThe Graduate School of Law inaugurated an entrance examination system in the 2000-2001 school year for students from foreign countries or students who had graduated from universities abroad after April of that school year. The test will be held in September with enrollment for the following October. Please see the latest description for further details. (2) Doctor's ProgramIn principle, applicants must have obtained a Master's degree or its equivalent. Applicants are required to take written examinations in one foreign language to be selected from English, German or French. A copy of the applicant's Master's thesis or the equivalent must be submitted and an oral examination concerning the submitted thesis or the equivalent is required prior to enrollment. Applicants are required to submit a Japanese translation with their thesis, if it is not written in Japanese. The deadline for applicants is in early January. The examinations are given in late January or in early February. Global COE Joint Doctoral Degree Programme Graduate School of Law, Tohoku University 2010 Application Requirement for the Doctoral Programme (Global COE Joint Doctoral Degree Programme) (3) Research Student ProgramThe School of Law offers opportunities for international students not aiming to earn degrees to undertake short term studies or researches. The levels of the courses (undergraduate and/or graduate) in which students may be admitted depend on the students' qualifications. Applications for the first semester (from April to September) will be accepted from late February to early March, and applications for the second semester (from December to March) must be submitted from late August to early September.
